Being initially inspired by the shadows of trees that she saw on grass, she did a lot of delving into a technique thatconversely didn't present the chosen object in a two-dimensional form on canvas. The object becomes a representation of itself, with the canvas carrying the painterly interpretation of the object. This is especially true in the case of a living object or perishable for example, fruit or humans. Alexa's painting style has an ephemeral quality, and all remaining of Alexa Meade's work is her photo. Both the painting and photographic techniques are so tightly coordinated and result in an unflat, 2-dimensional space which is able to achieve trompe l'oeil. The third dimension is only visible in certain areas that are close to the eyes, or near hair. Meade will sometimes integrate her painting into the surrounding three-dimensional environment and allows her to work within their own world. Through this, Meade is able to blur the lines between painting, photography and the performance.
